The Olga Havel Award 2012

Josef Kočí was the laureate of the Olga Havel Award 2012.

Josef Kočí was born in Jaroměř and lives in Ústí nad Labem. He worked as a soldier in the Czech Army for 26 years, than as a high school teacher at Society and Law School TRIVIS in Ústí nad Labem. He now works as a specialist at the Masaryk Hospital, particularly at the department of rehabilitation and prosthetics. He helps to integrate handicapped people back into society and normal life after suffering from an injury or returning from hospital. The reason why he feels closer to these patients and becomes their patron is that he had to fight for his own life in 2006. Josef Kočí is active in the field of lifelong learning, he is an amazing lecturer for volunteers. During his courses he helps them to better understand hospital environment and accompanies them directly to patients who need supportive psychosocial care and were specially selected in cooperation of doctors and nurses for such care. 

On the 28th of May 2012, the Committee of Good Will - Olga Havel Foundation announced a new laureate of the 18th Olga Havel Award Josef Kočí, a social advisor at the Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem. The Ceremony was held at the Památník národního písemnictví - Letohrádek Hvězda in Prague, in the presence of President of the Board of Directors Dana Němcová, Ivan M. Havel, Diana Sternbergová and other members of the Board. On this occasion the Foundation gave thanks to significant donors and partners and awarded outstanding projects of non-profit organisations. The cultural part of the event was led by the band Geshem and pianist Tomáš Kačo. The Ceremony was moderated by Jan Rosák.
