The Olga Havel Award 2000

Petr Dědeček† was the laureate of the Olga Havel Award 2000.

Petr Dědeček was awarded the Olga Havel Award on the 22nd of May 2000, in the Spanish hall of Prague Castle, for his long-term engagement in activities for citizens with mental illness. The Award – bronze sculpture “Encouragement” was handed over to Petr Dědeček by chairman of the Board of Directors Dana Němcová. President Václav Havel received a memorial medal for supporting activities of the Committee of Good Will – Olga Havel Foundation.

Petr Dědeček was born in 1950 in Liberec. He, himself suffered from long-term mental illness, worked at MyKlub in Liberec, and later established the Club of mental health in Česká Lípa. He was an initiator and programmer of events, which connect the world of mentally ill people and others. Awarding people with mental handicap, who have understanding for harsh life stories and help others, has become an important act for all the civic associations dealing with mental health care in the Czech Republic. Petr Dědeček passed away in 2005 after a short illness, when he was almost 55 years old.
