The Education Fund gave scholarships to ten students. One of them was Alexandr Lukáč from Ostrava.
Sixteen years old Alexandr Lukáč has been living in his foster family for five years now. He used to live with his biological father and six siblings until he was eleven. However, his father was ill and couldn’t take care of such a big family. Therefore all his children went to a children’s home. Alex was lucky, he left it after the first month. He studies at the Secondary School of Gastronomy, Tourism and Spa in Ostrava now.
He used to be interested in computers and thought about studying IT just like many other boys. But his interest in foreign languages and desire to travel around the world and get to know other cultures won eventually. When it comes to his future plans, Alex thinks big. He wants to become a steward. With his friendly, social and optimistic personality he would completely fit in.
He has liked foreign languages since primary school. Enthusiasm for English made him travel to England. He is a practical person and a possibility of using English regularly is a great motivation for him. He is learning German which, as he admitted, is way more difficult. “German is a very important language and I try to do my best to learn it properly. I would like to start French in the future, too as it is quite spread and would be useful at my work for sure,” says Alex pragmatically.
Financial contribution from the OHF and ČSOB will be used to cover his tuition fees. He goes to a private school. “We have been trying to find a state school but there are only three in Ostrava, and they were all full,” explains Alex. He is very happy at school. He appreciates that his beloved English is taught by a native speaker, and that the school offers various interesting internships. For example, now he is looking forward to serving athletes at the World Championships in Hockey within his practical lectures.
He spends a great deal of time on his computer. He learnt the basics of programming, but he loves playing games and editing photography the most. He always have enough material for editing as his brother is interested in photography.
The most important thing in Alex’s life is his foster family. He calls them mom and dad. He also gets along well with his step-siblings. “I think I like Simča the most, she is the youngest and cutest as well,” smiles Alex. Sometimes it is difficult to tell, which family he is talking about. He doesn’t differentiate between his own and step siblings. To him they are all simply brothers and sisters.
The Education Fund is a mutual project of ČSOB and the Olga Havel Foundation.
